Suspended, paused, or disapproved? Identify the Google Ads issue.

Identify the exact account or ad status before choosing a recovery process. An ad disapproval affects the cited ad or asset; a pause may require a task; an account suspension requires attention to the suspension decision. A drop in impressions alone does not tell you which situation applies.

Compare the status and the required action.

Use the wording shown in the account and the associated email. Different restrictions can coexist, so keep a separate record when more than one is present.

StatusWhat it means for your next step
Ad or asset disapprovedReview the policy attached to the affected item and use the ad-level correction or appeal route.
Account paused for verificationComplete the task identified in the account and follow the task’s decision.
Temporary account holdRead the hold notice and the enforcement steps that apply.
Account suspendedInvestigate the named suspension policy and prepare the appropriate account appeal.

When an individual ad is disapproved.

A disapproval is a decision about an affected ad or asset under a cited policy. Google provides an ad-level appeal process for a corrected issue or a decision the advertiser believes is mistaken. Read the specific policy details instead of using a generic account suspension form.

Check the linked destination as well as the ad text. Keep the change and review record so you can identify whether the same issue is recurring. Do not infer an account suspension merely because one important ad is not serving.

When the account is paused.

Google documents pauses for several situations, including verification requirements and account investigations. The relevant notice explains the task or status. A pause is not always a suspension and does not always use the same appeal route.

Establish who can perform the required action and track its completion. A completed identity task, processed payment, and restored ad delivery may be separate milestones; verify the actual state instead of treating them as interchangeable.

When the account is suspended.

Work from the suspension notice and collect the account history. A policy-specific investigation should determine which facts, corrections, and evidence belong in the response. If the decision appears wrong, the explanation should still be supported by records.

Do not use an optimization score or a single campaign metric as an alternative account-status indicator. Performance and enforcement are different questions.

When more than one Google product is affected.

Merchant Center product errors, Merchant Center account restrictions, Google Ads suspensions, and Business Profile suspensions use different interfaces and evidence. They can concern the same business without having identical next steps.

Keep a simple register with the product, identifier, notice, current status, responsible person, and next action. That record helps prevent the team from submitting a response to the wrong place or overlooking a separate task.

Common questions.

Can a disapproved ad eventually contribute to an account problem?

Google has enforcement procedures for repeated violations of certain policies. Read the applicable notices and policy guidance; an isolated ad disapproval does not by itself tell you the account is suspended.

What if ads stopped but there is no suspension notice?

Investigate delivery, billing, verification, ad status, and campaign settings using the information in the account. Do not assume a suspension from zero impressions alone.

Can I still view a suspended account?

Google generally permits viewing the account and reports with limited actions available. Use the current account interface and retain important records. Access may not remain available indefinitely.
