Merchant Center holds the product and business information used for Google Shopping experiences. Keeping the catalog accurate is ongoing operational work: prices change, products go out of stock, policies evolve, and website updates can affect the shopping journey.
Establish a reliable source of product information
Choose a product-data workflow the business can maintain, whether through its store integration, an uploaded data source, or another supported method. Identify who owns catalog updates and who investigates failures. A successful import is only the first check; compare the resulting product records with the live store.
Review identifiers, product and variant details, images, destination URLs, price, and availability against Google’s product data specification (opens in a new tab). Requirements depend on the product and destination. Do not invent identifiers or treat a generic checklist as complete for every catalog.
Check the whole buying experience
Follow several products through the landing page, cart, and checkout. Include variations, sale prices, and products with different shipping conditions. Make business contact details, shipping expectations, returns, and payment information easy to find and consistent across the journey.
Separate product issues from account issues
Merchant Center’s Needs attention area identifies product problems and provides access to setup and policy issues. Read the specific issue and affected scope before making changes. Fixing one product attribute will not necessarily resolve an account-level concern. Google’s Merchant Center issue guidance (opens in a new tab) explains how to locate and work through the notices.
Keep a record of the notice, evidence reviewed, changes made, and any review submitted. Check the live implementation before requesting another review. If the notice concerns Misrepresentation, see our Merchant Center Misrepresentation guide.
Review eligibility and performance separately
A product can be eligible without receiving the level of traffic or sales the business wants. Once account and product issues are addressed, review the advertising setup, demand, pricing, inventory, and buying experience. Use sales and fulfillment information alongside campaign reports so catalog decisions reflect the business.
